Layer Standards

2.2 Layer Standards

All CAD drawings submitted for ATL capital projects must comply with the layer naming conventions outlined below. Consistent layer usage ensures interoperability across disciplines and supports downstream asset management.

Standard Layer Naming Format

The required format for CAD layer names is as follows:

  • [DisciplineCode]-[ElementCode]-[Modifier]
  • Example: A-WALL-FULL
ComponentDescription
DisciplineCode1–2 letters identifying the discipline (e.g., A = Architecture, C = Civil)
ElementCodeDescribes the drawing element (e.g., WALL, DOOR, GRID)
ModifierOptional modifier for layer specificity (e.g., DEMO, NEW, EXIST)

Example Layer Codes

  • C-GRID-MAIN — Civil grid lines (main)
  • M-HVAC-DEMO — Mechanical demo HVAC layer
  • E-LTNG-EXIST — Existing electrical lighting layout

Special Layer Color Standards

Color assignments should follow the NCS/CTB (color table) conventions unless otherwise noted in project-specific CAD deliverable guidance.
